JOSH CLARK
Education:
Rhett played the French horn at Tarleton State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2003. After many years of working in finance, while playing and writing music on the side, Rhett returned to college to study music formally as an adult. He earned an AA in Music from Tarrant County College in 2018 and earned a Bachelor of Music in Composition from The University of Texas at Arlington in 2022, with magna cum laude honors.
Performance Experience:
Rhett has played guitar for over 25 years, and has played cello, violin and piano for 10 years. He has recorded several EP albums and received radio play in Texas and the United Kingdom. He has gigged all over Texas. With one band or another, he has opened for many Texas country acts including Pat Green, Jason Boland and Jack Ingram. Rhett has performed on piano as well; he was the Director of Music for St. Michael's Church for over four years. In addition, Rhett played cello in the UTA Symphony Orchestra, after learning as an adult.
Teaching Experience:
Rhett has been teaching guitar privately since 2018 and has taught piano and violin to adults and children since 2019. After graduating from UTA, he became a Private Cello Instructor for Keller ISD in January of 2023, and also worked as a String Sectional Coach for Keller schools. He is the music teacher at Gracewood Academy, where he instructs music and guitar to junior high and high school students. He also teaches cello, violin, and piano at Music & Arts in Hurst, Texas.
Rhett studied music education as well as composition at UTA, in order to learn how to teach music. It should be noted that by learning cello, violin and piano as an adult, Rhett is great at solving problems faced by beginners on these challenging instruments.
Teaching Philosophy:
“I believe that anyone can learn how to play music that they are passionate about. I believe that learning fundamentals and proper practice techniques are very important, and that they can be fun to learn. Through music, children can learn the value of a job well done, and with music, anyone can learn to express themselves in the most incredible way”.
